N-i-c-e....
Election day is Tuesday. BIG deal around here. Still a bit undecided about 85% sure I know who I'm voting for. I'm independent so I can choose.
Got my pay raise yesterday. Not as much as I hoped for. 3.17 percent. Inflation is 4.1 percent. Does that mean I'm losing money? Not sure. Told my boss I was pretty disappointed and discouraged and hoped for something better next year. She agreed, but it was already said-and-done so nothing to do about it but move on. Been here for 7 years and my salary has increased about 16k since then. That's around 2300 per year on average.
Well... I guess I didn't take this job for the money. The benefits are amazing. Lots of time off/low stress/free education for me/kids/spouse/no worries about takeover/re-org/etc.
That is all priceless.
Oper mgmt class last night. My team (Yi-chinese for 1) now consists of me (american) and a brazilian (guy), bulgarian (girl), mexican (girl), el salvadorean (girl). Feeling like I'm at the UN sometimes.
They way it works is each person reads a case study and answers some questions. You have 2 copies, one to the professor and one for you. You get together as a team, compare notes and come to a consensus. Each person then presents a portion to the rest of the class (very difficult for the english-challenged members on the team). The last 2 weeks I've been the only one to do the homework. Everyone else more-or-less copied what I had. What should I do? Not let them see it? That's not very "team" oriented. But that's not fair - I do all the work and they just copy. I'm going to have to say something if it happens again.
More painting this weekend; hope to finish up the cabinets. Staying overnight at a friends house in rhode island on sat. night. Long story; will have details next week.
It for now. GO PATZ!
P.S. I did a 'squares' pool at work.
Here's how it works:
One of the most common office pools, and one that requires no football knowledge, is the "box pool," in which participants are assigned numbered squares on a 10x10 grid. The 0-9 numbers across the top represent one team, and the 0-9 numbers down the side represent the other. The victor is the person who occupies the square that matches the last two digits of the game's score. So, for example, if the Patriots beat the Giants, 28-14, the square that aligns with "Patriots 8, Giants 4" is the winner. Many pools also anoint winners at the end of the first, second and third quarters.
Got the entire thing filled out. 250 bucks. 1stq=45, 2ndq=65, 3rdq=45, 4thq=95
Betsy has 2 numbers but they're good ones. We'll see what happens.
Either way I think I was able to enhance my relationship with some of my coworkers on a non-working level.
